14:22 has been staying at Twin Lakes Bible Camp in Iowa for the past couple of days. It’s a great place for us to relax and feel at home and to take care of business as a team.
Monday was a “day off” for our team, although we spent a lot of the day learning more about our team jobs and acclimating to life on the road. We had some rehearsal time and time to talk more about the programs we were planning for the rest of the week.
Yesterday we had the privilege of going to a few senior care centers to play some acoustic sets, and to spend time with the residents. Simply spending time with them was a blessing for them and for us, even though it was sometimes challenging to engage in conversation. One of the residents showed Elijah and me his collection of model trains, cars, and tractors that he had collected over the years and shared some of his fond memories of setting the trains up with his children and grandchildren. It was fun to see his eyes light up and a smile come to his face as he ran the trains around the track.
It was a really challenging day for me. I didn’t always know what to say or do for a lot of the time we were there, and I felt a little discouraged because of that. But I was reminded in devotions and team meeting times that simply being there was a blessing for them, and that the pressure isn’t on us to know exactly what to say or do in every situation. It’s the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that equips us for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
As Christians we have all been called to go out and share the good news with others, regardless of who we are or what we think our strengths and weaknesses are. We might have a lot of fears or doubts about our abilities, or even about what God’s plans are for us. But we have received the Holy Spirit to comfort and strengthen us:
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive , because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and in you.
-John 14:16-17 (ESV)
Thank you for your prayers for us as we go. May we all be strengthened and emboldened by the Holy Spirit to share the love of God wherever we are.
