We've been on the road for about 7 weeks now with only just over 2 weeks left of this Winter tour. It's been a tiring 7 weeks but looking back, it's so crazy how God has been providing for us! From small blessings like being served our favorite ice cream flavors, to bigger blessings like making it safely to our next concert location after driving for 10 hours through rain and snow storms, it is completely undeniable that God has been and still is taking care of us.
Earlier this week, I was sitting in the dining room at our host home reflecting on different ways God has provided this tour, and I thought it would be fun to share a few stories that stood out!
I have been dancing since I was very young, and during college dance became a way for me to escape the stress of school and draw close to God. Being on the road, it is so hard to stay active and much less, find time or the space to dance. There came a point while on the road when I was just itching to dance. I told my teammates that if ever we got to a host home that just happened to have a room with enough space for me to lock the door and dance for a while, I would take advantage of that opportunity. Sure enough, we ended up staying with this family whose son just happened to be a professional swing dancer and had lofted his bed to turn his room into a dance studio! It blew me away that right when I felt this desire to worship God through dance, he provided that opportunity!
While on the road, good rest and alone time are hard to come by. Recently I've been feeling extra physically tired and really wanted time to myself away from the team to recharge. What a blessing it was to get to a host home and find that I had my own room with an extremely comfortable bed! Right when I needed it, God provided that alone time and quality rest. This has happened many other times on tour as well. It doesn't always happen how I expect it to, but God has interesting ways of providing the rest I need.
This same host home was right on a lake. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place to be! One morning I was looking out at the lake and our host pointed out all the ducks that were swimming around. Immediately Matthew 6:26 jumped to mind: "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
God promises to take care of us and provide for our needs. A theme that has been coming up a lot lately in my life and within the team is taking God's promises and claiming them as your own. Being on the road and not having much control over our schedules, what we eat, or amount of sleep, this is a promise that we're almost forced into trusting God with. The funny thing is that these are the areas where we most often see God's blessings!
Little by little God is opening my eyes to things He wants me to trust Him with. Through various situations and in different aspects of my life, God is proving faithful over and over again. He is deepening my comprehension of what it means to trust Him, and providing for needs I didn't even realize I had. "Praise be to the Lord...The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song" (Psalm 28:6-7).
